A new pedestrian and cyclist subway is coming to Wymondham, Norfolk. The work is improving the access between the station and town centre in the hope of  easing traffic congestion.

What’s Being Built?

A subway is being be built beneath the east side of the railway bridge on Station Road, adjacent to Wymondham station. The aim is to to connect the south-side housing developments with the town centre and station platforms.

The work has involved massive pre-cast concrete sections, each weighing about 28 tonnes being lifted in by crane in to place after the temporary removal of train tracks.

This huge project kicked off in late 2023 and October and the construction of the subway will be finally completed and opened in autumn 2026.

This work is has be implemented because of the lack of accessibility and the plan involves removing the current narrow footpath beneath the bridge. The subway will create a dedicated, traffic‑free route for pedestrians and cyclists, and deliver better flow for motorists

Road Closure: Station Road is now fully closed to traffic and pedestrians from 30 June to 27 July 2025 to accommodate earthworks and concrete lifting.
