- Forklift Training & Certification
It is recommended that all operators are trained and certified according to AITT, RITB, or other relevant standards. Lift truck refresher training shouldbe completed every 3 years.
- Conduct Pre-Operation Inspections
To ensure safety it is important to carry out pre-operation inspections on the forklift, for example, checking brakes, steering, lights, horn, and hydraulics before use.
- Wear Proper Safety Gear when operating a lift truck
Operators are required to appropriate PPE – Protective Personal Equipment, for example high-visibility clothing.
- Lift truck Load Stability
Our forklift trainers always advise to not exceed the forklift’s weight capacity. Maintaining the load balanced and properly secured, which is demonstrated through our forklift training.
- Park & Shut Down the Forklift
Ensure when operating a lift truck that the forks are lowered, and the brake is applied before turning off the engine. Never leave a running forklift unattended.
Understanding how to operate lift trucks safety will prevent potential accidents in the workplace. As the HSE states that lift trucks are involved in approximately 25% of all workplace transport accidents.
