Testing Details:

Audiometric testing is recommended for all individuals who are exposed to noise on a daily basis, as part of the company’s duty of care under the Control of Noise at Work regulations 2005. Hearing tests form a large part of Health Surveillance.

Milne Safety provide one to one hearing tests conducted by our qualified hearing specialist in our bespoke Audiometric Van which comprises of an HSE approved audio sound booth.

  • Using state of the art testing machines alongside the foolproof Bekesy method for testing, we guarantee accurate hearing tests.
  • Prior to carrying out a hearing test, the delegates are required to complete a questionnaire, this being satisfactory, their ears will be examined via the use of an otoscope to ensure that the test can be completed.
  • Upon completion of the hearing test, appropriate records and recommendations will be provided for the company and for the individual. The whole process take around 20 – 25 minutes per person.

Duration: 1/2 day or 1 day testing for group testing

Location: Testing can be completed at your Company Site or for smaller numbers of employees at our open days at Milne Safety.

Requirements of Audiometric Testing:

  • Provide health surveillance, including audiometric testing, for employees who are regularly exposed to noise levels at or above the upper exposure action value (85 dB(A)).
  • Health surveillance should also be provided if the risk assessment indicates that there is a risk to the health of the employees, even at lower noise levels.
  • Initial baseline audiometric testing should be conducted when employees start work that exposes them to significant noise levels.
  • Follow-up audiometric testing should be conducted at regular intervals, typically annually for the first two years and then every three years if no issues are detected.
  • A sound level meter is used to check that the ambient noise in the vehicle is meeting the required noise level. Should the sound levels be exceeded the audiometric test will cease, until the temporary noise has been reduced.
  • Our mobile audiometry unit has been attenuated to ensure the necessary sound levels can be met
