Testing Details:

As part of our Health Surveillance Services we offer Face Fit Testing in accordance with the HSE Guidelines. Our Face Fit Testing ensures the facepieces fit the wearer’s face effective and safely, ensuring maximum protection.

Employer Considerations
If any of your employees wear respiratory protective equipment (RPE), the mask must be able to provide adequate protection for each individual wearer.

For respiratory protective equipment to protect the wearer the facepieces shouldn’t have any leaks and a major cause of leaks, is poor fit. The whole process take around 15 – 20 minutes per person.

Duration: 1/2 day or 1 day testing for group testing

Location: Testing can be completed at your Company Site or for smaller numbers of employees at our open days at Milne Safety.

Requirements of Face Fit Testing:

In the UK, employers are required to ensure that any employee who needs to wear a tight-fitting respirator undergoes face fit testing. This requirement falls under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH), the Control of Asbestos Regulations, and the Control of Lead at Work Regulations. The purpose of face fit testing is to ensure that the selected respiratory protective equipment (RPE) provides adequate protection to the wearer.

Frequency: Face fit testing should be conducted:

  • Initially, before the employee uses the RPE for the first time.
  • Whenever a different type, size, model, or make of RPE is used.
  • Periodically, to ensure continued fit and effectiveness, typically at least BI annually.
  • When there are changes in the wearer’s facial characteristics or other factors that could affect the fit, such as significant weight loss, dental work, facial surgery, or changes in facial hair.
